Caddy
A caddy is a way to prepare yourself for the third shift. Your future (tired) self will thank you when you have things ready to go for night time.
Night Light
We loved this night light (Amazon) specifically because it’s so easy to just keep on the night stand and flip it to turn it on. You can easily adjust the brightness and then just flip it upside down when you’re done to turn it off!
Burp Cloths
Burp cloths everywhere. All the time. Just always have a burp cloth with you.
Diapers
This one’s pretty obvious, but it’s good to get in the habit of making sure the caddy is full of diapers before you go to bed. You will thank yourself at 4am!
Wipes
This one’s pretty obvious as well, but something else that may help is a container like this (Amazon) for the wipes. If you keep the wipes in the original bag, you’ll find they make a lot of noise at night and may wake your baby up even more.
Changing Pad
If baby is in your room and the changing table is not, you’re going to want a changing pad to lay down for diaper changes at night.
Diaper Cream
Because nobody wants a diaper rash
Sound machine
We didn’t use a sound machine when our baby was a newborn but as he got older, it came in handy! We especially love this sound machine (Amazon) because it’s so easy to take/move wherever you want and it has 10 soothing sounds including a “shhh” sound that our baby loves.
Nasal aspirator
I liked to keep this on hand the first couple months. New born babies sneeze a lot and may wake up congested, so this is nice to have in a pinch!
Extra pacifiers
IYKYK. If you have a baby who loves his/her pacifier, it’s good to have extras at night in case one falls out of the crib.
Extra sleeper/swaddle
We love the LoveToDream swaddle. After trying multiple swaddles the first few nights I brought my newborn home, I finally found the LoveToDream swaddle which made night time so much easier because of the easy two way zipper. It’s great if you can have an extra swaddle and sleeper/onesie in your caddy in case of any spit up, blow outs, etc.
Hand sanitizer
It’s ideal to wash your hands after a diaper change, but we all know we do things differently at 2am. Hand sanitizer may come in handy for those who want to wash their hands but not get out of bed.
