Materials You’ll Need

Here’s what you need to install this DIY wall moulding:

  • The pre-cut moulding listed above
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • Some sort of glue/adhesive – this is what I used

Optional:

  • Paint brush
  • Paint
  • Caulk – I did not caulk mine

Three Easy Steps

1. Plan Your Layout

Measure your wall and decide how you want to space the frames — aim for even margins on all sides. I plugged my wall dimensions into Google and it told me exactly how to measure it.

Using your tape measure, level and a pencil lightly mark the layout for the frames.

2. Attach the Moulding

Apply a thin line of adhesive to the back of each trim piece and also along your line on the wall. The adhesive I used said to then wait two minutes before placing the moulding onto the wall. Firmly press all areas of the framing to ensure it will stick. If needed, you can use painters tape to ensure the framing will be stuck firmly against the wall.

Check for level as you go.

3. Paint for a Seamless Look

Paint the moulding the same color as the wall for a clean, elevated finish.

You can:

  • Use a satin or semi-gloss for contrast
  • Or match wall paint exactly for a subtle effect

Where DIY Wall Moulding Works Best

Wall moulding looks amazing in:

  • Living rooms
  • Bedrooms
  • Nurseries
  • Hallways
  • Dining rooms

It’s especially perfect if you want your home to feel more custom without major construction.

Final Thoughts

DIY wall moulding completely transformed my space — and it was far easier than I expected. If you’ve been on the fence, this is your sign to try it.

With a little patience and planning, you can create a high-end, custom look on a budget — no contractor required.
