Packing the diaper bag can be overwhelming at first. I know the first time I left the house I was missing quite a few things. You quickly learn what’s essential to keep packed and what’s just taking up room! This list is targeted towards new moms who just need a simple checklist of those must-have items.
Diapers
Need I say more?
Wipes
If you can find a smaller container of wipes, it’s easier to fit in the bag vs a large container of wipes
Hand Sanitizer
To use after you use the diapers and wipes!
Pacifier/Bag/Clip
It’s always good to have an extra pacifier on hand, and storing them in this bag (Amazon) can help you find it quickly. It’s also good to keep a pacifier clip (Amazon) in your bag, so the pacifier doesn’t fall on the ground when out and about.
Thin Blanket
These muslin swaddle blankets (Amazon) roll up pretty small, so they won’t take up too much room. They’re great to lay down for your baby to lay/play on.
Extra set of clothes for mom and baby
An extra shirt for mom and onesie for baby is always great to keep on hand.
Burp cloths
Burp cloths (Amazon) like this that aren’t too thick are great to pack in you diaper bag. They’re absorbent but don’t take up too much room.
Tylenol
Baby Tylenol is always great to have on hand. You never know when you may need it!
Sample size of lotions, etc.
I’ve received a lot of samples of things like lotions and diaper creams from registries I’ve had or the doctor’s office. These samples are great to keep in the diaper bag because they don’t take up a lot of room if needed in a pinch!
Changing Pad
You’ll always want to have a changing pad with you whether you’re at a friend’s house or in a public restroom. This changing pad folds up and fits great in the diaper bag!
Ear protection
As much as you try to avoid loud areas for your baby, it’s inevitable you’ll run into a loud area. Whether it’s a sporting event or a birthday part, these headphones (Amazon) are great to keep in the diaper bag! They don’t seem to bother our baby and definitely help block out the noise.
Diaper cream
Great to always have with you in case of a diaper rash! (Amazon)
